With Easter weekend looming, most of us will be enjoying time with family and tucking into a few Easter eggs, but not our personal trainer Rob, he will be taking part in the Devizes to Westminster canoe race to raise money for Dementia UK.
What is the Devizes to Westminster canoe race? It’s a 4-day stage race from Devizes in Wiltshire along the Kennet and Avon canal then turning left on the River Thames at reading all the way to Westminster Bridge in London, that’s a total of 125miles to paddle. Day one consists of 34 miles of paddling and 34 portages (get out and run around a lock), day two is 36 miles and 30 portages, day three 38 miles and 13 portages and day 4 just a 17-mile paddle to the finish.
Rob is raising money for Dementia UK. Just like many families across the UK Rob has had family members who have suffered with a brain disorder and has seen how it affects the whole family and will be using this as motivation to finish the race. All the money raised will go to help other families get the help and support they need and it would be awesome if you could donate any money. Please visit www.justgiving.com/fundraising/robbeer3 if would like to sponsor.
You can also follow how Rob is getting on in the race via GPS tracker at http://live.opentracking.co.uk/dw4day18/ and type in boat 720.
Any good luck messages and support are always a boost to anyone taking on a challenge so feel free to get behind him or ask any question on how he approached his training and nutrition before, during and after the race.
