As Nathan and Jack prepare for their 189 mile bike ride to raise money for BrAMS charity, they have recently started training together, here is part 2 of their training diary:

It had been a few weeks since our last training session when we completed the Chepstow Step Hill, so in our next phase I decided we needed to do a long bike ride and tackle some large hills. I planned a day out on the bank holiday to ride from my house in West Bristol to the Mendip Hills and back, a round trip of 50 miles with some big hill climbs, all in preparation for the Cornish Hills.

Before we started we had our bikes checked over and serviced by Crucial BMX shop in Bedminster and they are now running as smoothly as if they were new. The advice they gave has been really helpful, we now have better tyres on the bikes and we can both feel the difference while on the roads - so a thank you to the guys at Crucial BMX shop!

Our support team, Jon and Helen, were quite shocked at the size of the hills we had to tackle as part of the training ride, but they did a great job at keeping up with us throughout the day. Except for a few wrong turns early on, the ride was a big success and pretty enjoyable too with the sun out and not too much wind. The hills really got our lungs and legs working so we decided to stop off at a village fair for an hour to recover before we headed back to Bristol to enjoy the sun but also to enjoy the rest of the bank holiday weekend.

The whole day took it out of us and even a few days later our legs are heavy and are taking some time to recover. Unfortunately we won’t have recovery time during the actual ride, so it really will be a test for us to get to Perranporth in one piece.

We are hugely grateful for any donations. If you would like to donate, please click here.

Thanks,

Nathan
